Tips
The M4A3E8 is the most underwhelming tier 3 medium tank when it comes to fighting other tanks, as it has the best anti infantry armaments out of all of them. It is common for this tank to lose to a T-34/85 Model 1944 by having inferior DPM, or to a Panzer V Ausf. G by not being able to pen its frontal armor.
The M4A3E8 has excellent gun depression, which allows this tank to work with ridgelines fairly effectively.
The T4 APCR rounds will allow the M4A3E8 to have much better armor penetration up close (significantly better than AP and APHE shells), giving the tank capability to effectively damage tanks like the Panzer VI Tiger and the Panzer V Ausf. G frontally.
The turret roof mounted (M1919A4) machine gun is unique to the M4A3E8. It has relatively decent protection for the gunner, and is fully traverseable. With a good support crew, this tank is able to engage infantries very effectively.
The M4A3E8 will struggle significantly against heavier opponents. It is highly advised to completely avoid engagement without additional support.
When facing a Panther head on, the M4A3E8 has the option to penetrate its lower glacis with relative ease (although the damage done will be inferior to some potential returning shots that hit your critical components).
Using the Sherman 'Easy Eight' medium tank in battle will earn you points on this ribbon. More points are awarded for scoring hits on enemy tanks. The highest award is given for destroying enemy tanks.
