History
The Panzerbüchse-39 (PzB 39) was a German anti-tank rifle used in the second world war, mainly during the invasion of Poland. It was an improvement over the Panzerbüchse-38 (PzB 38), mainly in it's operating system and overall handeling. Now instead of pulling on a lever to open the chamber on the PzB 38, the PzB 39 had a button switch and was less prone to having dirt and dust get into the mechanism, making it less likely to jam or misfire. It used the 7.92x94 Patronen, and could penetrate up to 50mm of armor when it wasn't sloped, but when shot at a 60° angle, it quickly fell to only 25 mm of armor. It's effective range was 300 meters.
Anti-tank rifles originate from 1917 when Mauser built the 1918 T-Gewehr, the world's first effective anti-tank rifle. Germany kept developing further models throughout the inter-war years. During the invasion of Germany into Poland in 1939, Polish troops didn't have great armor capacity or effectivity. Therefore, a bullet like the one in the PzB 39 could easily penetrate the Polish armor. So instead of giving each soldier a Panzerfaust, a unit got a PzB 39 and could easily destroy an armor column. Later in the war the weapon wasn't so effective and so most were then converted to Granatbüchse-39s.
Gameplay
The Panzerbüchse-39 is the only non-captured anti-tank rifle for the German faction, unlocked at Rank 5 Tank Destruction. It's main use is to disable vehicles, especially APCs and light tanks, by shooting at their vital parts. Medium and heavy tanks won't take much damage, and penetration is barely noticeable. If you're going for an anti-tank role, don't use this weapon. If you still chose to do so, use Panzerwurfmine (L) and a set of Hafthohlladung H3 to weaken the armor and to disable internals. The PzB 39 is effective when shooting at external parts such as fuel tanks and tracks, but won't kill a tank with ease.
It is, however, highly effective against planes. Leading the plane and zeroing in on it can be difficult, but 4 shots and it's done for. Still, this weapon isn't greatly effective against armor so if you're going for anti-tank, get a launcher.
The PzB 39 has a 1 bullet magazine, the sights are fixed at 300 meters, effective range is about 100 meters and has a low repair cost without modifications. The Patrone 318 SmKH-Rs-L'Spur maximizes armor penetration while the Patrone 318 PanzerGeschoss maximizes damage.
It is recommended to use the bipod to reduce gun sway when aiming down the iron sights. It also HIGHLY recommended to use the Fast Reload badge as this will allow you to fire faster when you miss your target. Using only the silver Infantry First badge will give you a chance to destroy a car in 2 shots while the gold version will increase your chances. When not using the Infantry First badge and the default ammo it is more likely to require 2-3 shots to destroy any car and 4+ for any enemy APCs.
In a rather meme-ish sense, one can make use of this weapon in an anti-infantry fashion as a pseudo-sniper of sorts. The effective range of armor penetration may be just around 100 meters, but the effective range of the gun against infantry is much more. The sway of the gun is so massive that, unless you are prone or using the bipod, you will find it very difficult to hit a shot further away than point blank. When shooting beyond 10-20 meters while not prone or using a bipod, you have to predict the swaying pattern of the gun in order to land a hit.
However, when you are prone or using a bipod, it becomes very viable to hit a shot very far out, provided you have the required aim and patience to wait for a good opportunity.
More or less the only upside of using this weapon as a pseudo-sniper is that it is a guaranteed one hit kill even against heavy set gold, unlike even the most heavily modded recon sniper rifles. You most likely will be better off just using a regular sniper rifle, but in the right hands and with the right tactic it can make for a fun and effective weapon.
Last but not least, be sure to make up for the fact that the gun is zeroed for 300 meters. Aim ever so slightly more down than you usually would.
It is not recommended to use sight modifications since this will decrease weapon sway when not using the bipod but it will not decrease the base cone fire.
For the fastest rate of fire use the Fast Reload badge. The Hair Trigger modification only decreases the time to chamber the bullet and makes no significant change to your overall rate of fire.
