Paratroopers' main task in the battle is to successfully land on a objective, capture it and defend it. They are very efficient if used properly during the game. They can also be used to drop behind enemy lines and harass the enemy and/or delay the enemy's advance. A Paratrooper can be bought with gold or credits after reaching Player Level 6.
(Newer Soldiers no longer have the feature to select to different careers, as such of the new Buyable Soldiers and their reduced price.)
Paratroopers spawn on a Transport Plane and parachute onto the objective when the plane passes over the desired objective. Once landed, Paratroopers are not too different from Infantry; the main difference aside from parachuting being that Paratroopers have 8 equipment slots compared to Infantry's 10. German Paratroopers currently have a Paratrooper-exclusive weapon, the FG42 (Fallschirmjägergewehr 42) while Soviets and America do not, although USA has Johnson LMG available as an equivalent. U.S. also has the M1A1 Carbine available, costing only 4 equipment points with the default ammo pouch and allowing for a great variety of loadouts, most notably a medic pouch with sidearm or explosives. However, its combat performance may be lacking for some when compared to fully automatic guns which can remain paired with just the medic pouch for good survivability. Nonetheless, USA paratroopers have the upper hand with weapon loadout variety.
Paratroopers are incredibly useful because they don't have to make an effort to run past enemies to get to the next objective, they can merely drop in. That being said, that does not mean that a smart opponent won't be watching for some parachutes at which to shoot. Without the Free Fall combat badge, Paratroopers automatically open their parachutes seconds after jumping into the air giving the enemy a lot of time to shoot gliding Paratroopers. With the Free Fall combat badge, Paratroopers can open their parachute at any given time, meaning that opening the parachute 1 meter before the ground and avoiding enemy fire is certainly an option. Most Paratroopers use the Free Fall combat badge and swear by it, just make sure to open it before you hit the ground.

Trivia
Paratroopers are unable to carry bolt action rifles, however this was a common occurrence for early paratroopers as their standard weapon if they required more long range firepower.
