Weapon Upgrades

One important aspect of Heroes and Generals is learning how to modify your weapons. This greatly impacts what weapons are capable of doing, but at a cost to the player. There are some combinations that are better than others, and some that are extremely costly in terms of credits spent per match. Most weapon modifications have both a positive and a negative effect for the gun they are being applied to which means that they are not a pure upgrade, but they allow you to specialize a gun for a particular purpose (e.g.: you can customize your rifle to be stable and precise and play long-range, or increase the rate of fire and damage to play mid-to-close range).

In the lobby, weapons miniatures offer a lot of information; most importants are:

Weapon maintenance[edit | edit source]

The Weapon Maintenance menu

On the main lobby, clicking on the Wrench on a weapon miniature will open the Weapon Maintenance menu.
Each weapon degrades when being used; customized items degrades also; ammunitions are used: the more you use your weapon, the more you will have to pay to maintain it.
In this menu, you can:

  • Rename your weapon (7600Credits or 45 Gold)
  • Maintain your weapon
    • Manually pay for repair/refill
    • Ask auto repair/refill for Credits or Gold

Note: The state bar (red part of the miniature) indicates how urgent it is that you maintain your weapon!

Field Maintenance load[edit | edit source]

Every piece of equipment and vehicle has a Field Maintenance Load. Weapon upgrades can increase this load too.

Each character in-game has an equipment Field Maintenance Load, calculated based on equipment assigned currently and modifications to that equipment. If you chose to spawn with a vehicle, you'll also have a vehicle Field Maintenance Load. As your characters die, the vehicle load and equipment load will be added to 2 timers (starting at 0:00, max ~4:00), one for vehicles and one for equipment. Those timers will then decrease while you are spawned in battle until they reach 0:00 again. They are reset at the start of each battle.

  • If the vehicle Field Maintenance Load of your vehicle, when added to the current vehicle timer, would make it more than 4:00, you won't be able to spawn with it. Note: Different vehicles have different maintenance loads meaning you may be able to spawn some sooner than others.
  • If the Equipment Field Maintenance Load of your soldier, when added to the current equipment timer, would make it more than 4:00, you won't be able to spawn at all on that character.

If you have characters with high field maintenance loads, it is a good idea to have other characters with low maintenance loads you can switch to while waiting for the timer to decrease.

In the image to the right, you can see circled in red the Field Maintenance Load indicator. Hovering over it with a mouse will show you a breakdown of your Field Maintenance Load. The weapon modifications come under the weapon time for example the modded Thompson has a 24 second timer while without mods it has a 20 second timer.

Upgrade menu[edit | edit source]

In the main lobby, clicking on the Eye on a weapon miniature will open the Weapon Upgrade menu.
In this menu, there is a lot of information, and you can do a lot of important things:

  • You can see the name of the weapon (rename it for 7600Credits or 45 Gold)
  • You can see the damage/range and the shots dispersion of the weapon (blue curves)
  • You can see some characteristics of the weapon, including Equipment Points used
  • You can see and change the amount of ammo you will bring. This will affect the equipment points used
  • You can customize your weapon: change the ammo, sights, etc.
    • By selecting any upgrade, you can see on the two charts the effect of the modification in terms of damage and dispersion (yellow curve)
    • Each modifications may have bonuses AND maluses in terms of weapons characteristics (see below)
    • Some modifications may have no impact on the weapon, but on the gameplay (e.g. putting a scope on a rifle)
    • Beware: some modifications will make your weapon more fragile, this will increase maintenance costs
  • You can change the skin of the weapon (purely cosmetic)
The 5 upgrade characteristics and corresponding icons

Upgrades have impacts on 5 characteristics: Damage, Rate of Fire, Range, Precision, Stability.

  • When the icon is Green, the upgrade increases the characteristic.
  • When the icon is Red, the upgrade decreases the characteristic.
  • When the icon is Grey, the upgrade has no impact on the characteristic.

Select an upgrade to the the impact on the charts of the menu (yellow curves, while blue curves are base characteristics).

Upgrading & Modifying Weapons[edit | edit source]

Basic knowledge[edit | edit source]

From top to bottom: equipped modification, possessed but not equipped mod., locked mod. (ribbon needed), un-possessed md. (available for buying))

Basic knowledge on modifications:

  • Modifications are unlocked by Specialist Ribbons. The more you use a weapon, the more modifications will be available to you.
  • A modification costs Credits/Gold to buy and to maintain; once bought, you can always equip/unequip it.
  • A modification degrades when used; this means modifications must be maintained.

Note: Once the required ribbon is unlocked and the modification bought, a modification must be equipped: click on the tickbox on the right hand side to equip it (it will become yellow). For example, in the image to the right you can see that the Anschusspatrone s.S. ammunition has been equipped.

Upgrade characteristics[edit | edit source]

Weapon modifications affect the stats of the weapon, each slightly different, with some having more available upgrades in each category. Each weapon modification has a positive and negative benefit:

  • Damage: The value of maximum health points each hit may take away from enemy when shot. Damage varies depending on what body part of the enemy is hit
  • Range: The distance in which damage will start to fall off or diminish. The higher the range, the more effective the weapon is at a distance.
  • Rate of Fire (RoF): The amount of time that passes before a following shot can be fired. The higher the value, the faster the weapon may fire.
  • Precision: The more accurate the round(s) fired will follow the projected path. Think "tighter" crosshair.
  • Stability: The recoil of the weapon. The higher the stability, the lower the recoil.

Available upgrades[edit | edit source]

There are 6 types of possible upgrades, 5 of which alter the weapon's performance:

  • Ammunition
  • Trigger
  • Internal
  • Sights/Scopes
  • Barrel
  • Skins (purely cosmetic)

The modification type is not important, what is important is the impact on weapon performance.

Some weapons do not have modifications on all types. This means a weapon has at most 5 upgrade categories.

Scopes do not modify weapon characteristics, but have an effect in game (increased zoom when aiming).

Ammo Types[edit | edit source]

When purchasing ammo, it should be noted that you are purchasing rounds at the cost below for 1000(Pistols, SMGs, Semi Auto Rifles), 500(Bolt Action Rifles, LMGs) rounds. This means if you are using custom rounds on a rifle or pistol, it is generally not as costly as on an SMG or LMG where you fire more bullets. Players should be mindful of using modified ammo with automatic weapons for this reason.
